• 'AKhbueb. the weather was anything but Dleasant on Tuesday, the reputation of ti» Conick Family drew a large audience rto one of their popular concerts, given -in the Institute Hall, Rangiora. The proWwnme in quantity was generous, and SnSity excellent, and the audience, by ' aorhettrty applause, showed their appredation, a considerable proportion of the ■ nwn&rs- being encored The Family js noWtoxiring North Canterbury, and will appear at Kaiapoi to-night. . The first of a series of weekly social eatherings of the members ot the CanterSociety and their friends toot 'place m the Society's rooms last "Swung, ami was largely attended. The President, Mr P. Campbell, was in the chair. A -good programme of bcottisn music -was gone through. Pipe music was played by Pipe-Major MTavish and Pipers Wade and' Walker, songs were sung by Mrs Davis Hunt, Misses M'Gregor and Duncan; and Messrs Frere, Smart and Johnston. Mr Davis Hunt was accom- , panist. " Piper Wade danced a ■ High- ' land fling. The programme had been arranged bv the President and Messrs P. M. • Johnston and R. M'Millan. At its close the President read a telegram of greeting from Mr J. W- Malcolmson, a vice-presi-dent of the Society, who lately left Christchurch to reside lit Ashburton. After the concert a short programme of dancing was pone through, the music being played by Aha pipers, and by Miss MT-ean at the ..pianoforte.
