ACCIDENTS AND FATALITIES.
[Pee Press Association.] AUCKLAND, May 10.
At the Customs Street railway crossing a horse with a loaded dray jibbed. The signal station signalled an incoming, train, but though the brakes were applied the engine smashed tba dray to pieces. The horse had to be destroyed. , The driver, Arthur Andrews, escaped uninjured.
Yesterday afternoon a shunter, engaged in shifting trucks at the Christcimrch. rail' way yard, got caught between the. buffers of two tracks and was severely injured. He was removed to the hospital,- where it ■was found that his left thigh was smashed, and that he'had also sustained internal injuries.. Upon inquiry late last night it was ascertained that he was doing as well as could be expected.
