CYCLING.
On Thursday afternoon G-. Porter lowered the fifty-mile road record between Eiccarton and Leeston. The previous record, 2hr 28J-sec, had been put up by J. W. Jones a few days ago, and Porter succeeded in lowering this to 2hr 17sec. The road was in splendid condition and the weather was favourable. Porter was paced from the Eiccarton Hotel to the Wheatsheaf Hotel by Arch'er, and from the Wheatsheaf to Irwell Church and thence to Leeston by two tandems. On the return journey the tandem accompanied the rider to Irwell, ahd he was then picked up by a triplet and paced back to Eiccarton.
