TO THE EDITOR. Sir, —Thank .you. much for your two articles oh Inebriate Homes; also, I am glad Mr Kirk has written such a straight-, fonvard manly letter; ht is entirely to'the point. No one can deplore more than I do the horrible practice of sending.,.dying inebriates to the gaol ; it is simply disgraceful, I must say, however, that the women do, undoubtedly, get better treatment when sick than the men,' for the simple reason that they arts tended by women, ' and women visitors are ( allowed to approach them at all hours. The poor men have only male prisoners, under an ordinary warder, to nurse .theml have always been an advocate for simple reforms till the big ones come along, so why should'' not a trained hospital nurse be placed on he prison staff to attend on the men sick n the prison hospital? She would ,be a veritable angel of light to, the poor fellows, and I am sure she would, he welcomed warmly by the head Gaoler, who is kindness itself to, all real sufferers. The prison doctor oaimot aiways be at the bedside of the dying inebriate, but the-trained nurse could, and we ail know how many a p life is saved by. the, light way of administering nourishment, by the right way o£ placing the body, by the.; right way of settling the bedclothes, etc-, ,in fact, by all the right methods instead of the clumsy ones erf untrained attendants. It is mv intention to bring this before Colonel on his return from Australia, and,! am sura' he will give the suggestion his sincere attention; "I have no doubt the women’s organisations of this town will support my actum.—l am, etc., ■ ■ ■ '• . ■
