It is alleged that nine thousand Uifclanders in the Transvaal have signed a petition, expressing confidence in the Boers. It was also a breach of the 1884 Convention.' Mr F. W. Reitz, the Transvaal Secretary of State, replied', asserting that the Transvaal had the exclusive right to fix the conditions for the manufacture of dynamite, and that Great Britain was not justified in protesting. PARIS, May 6. The “ Journal des Debats’” condemns President Kruger’s strange obstinacy, and considers that Great Britain’s intervention under the circumstances would not be surprising.
