TEMPERANCE COLUMN.
TO THE EDITOR. Sir,—ln your correspondence column this morning you publish a letter under i the above heading, and over the nom de 1 plume, “ A Sympathiser,” who asks your ( readers to send small subscriptions to (assist “A Total Abstainer” in publishing the Temperance Column in the “Times” and “ Star ”on Saturdays. Now, Ido not know whether “ A Sympathiser ” has contributed towards the cost Of the above or not. But if he has, why did he not say so; so that it would be a good example for others to follow? If he has not, why does he ask others to do what he has not done ? If your correspondent is a member of the Church of England, ho will, no doubt, be aware that the following sentence is often heard in the church :—“ Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works,” etc. I quite agree with “ A Sympathiser,” that Temperance Columns in the papers “are doing a great deal to educate the public in the temperanbe causebut as I get so many calls to give ! to this and the other, I cannot see my way ;to assist this particular object. Perhaps I “A Sympathiser” is situated the same I way as myself. If he is, he ought to have said so in his letter.—l am, etc., E.
