[Peb Pbess Association.] WELLINGTON, April 24.
The charge of assault, brought by Mrs Higgins, against Detective Broberg', for ordering her to leave the course at the trotting races on the ground that she was a bookmaker, was gone into tliis morning, and after it had been partly heard complainant withdrew the information, counsel intimating that civil action would be taken. Three charges have been laid against Alfred Crossey, a well-known publican, under the Bankruptcy Act, of failing to keep proper books, making improper payments, reckless speculation and gambling. The Wellington Garrison Band ,will probably accept an invitation to take part in the band contestant Bathurst, New South Wales, in November next, if it is able to raise sufficient funds.
