LYTTELTON REGATTA.

— A meeting of the committee of the Lyttelton Regatta was held on Wednesday night. Mr J. Joyce (one of the vice-com-modores) occupied the chair, and there was a large attendance. A deputation from the Christchurch Sailing Club waited upon the committee, urging that the new linear measurement rule adopted by the committee was unsuited to the class of boat competing from Sumner, and asking the committee to revert to the old sail-area rule for the race for boats under thirty feet. The members of the deputation explained at some length their objections to the rule and then retired. It was resolved that the Sailing Club should be asked to forward to the committee a requisition, signed by the owners of the boats likely to compete, to the effect of the representations made by the deputation. A letter was read from the owner of the yacht Thelma, Dunedin, entering for the first-class yacht race. The collectors reported having made fair progress with the work of canvassing for subscriptions. A good deal of work yet remained to be done. The tender of the Lyttelton Town Band to supply music on regatta day for £lO was accepted. An apology was made for the absence of the commodore, Mr P. Graham, and the hon treasurer reported that he had received a cheque for £5 towards the funds from that gentleman. .
