ENTERTAINMENTS.

There was a very good attendance at the Theatre Royal last 'evening, when “The Magistrate was repeated by the company of amateurs who staged this comedy so successfully last week. A benefit concert was given m the Choral Hall last evening, in aid of the widow and children of the late Mr Joshua Corkin, of Sydenham. There was l a good attendance. * Thanks to this efforts of Bisnop Julius and the Rev E. A. Scott, a capital instrumental and vocal programme was provided. The performers were Misses.Atkin-• son, Graham, Marsden and Julius, Mrs C. M Brooks, and Messrs A. Fairbaim, Russell Halley, A. Joll and H. M. Reeves. Members of the Motett Society sang a couple of glees, and Mr Winter Hall contributed a. recitation. The annual smoke concert of the Canter-, bury branch of the Amalgamated Society of Railway Servants was held at the Sydenham Working Men’s Club on Saturday evening. The Chairman read a letter from Mr Ronayne, General Manager at Wellington, expressing regret at not being able to attend, .but at the same time wishing all a pleasant evening. The folldwafig toasts were honoured:— “The Queen and Empire,” “ Government and Parliament of New Zealand,” “ New Zealand Railways and the General Manager,” “ Amalgamated Society and Executive,” “ Canterbury Branch of the Amalgamated Society oi' Railway Servants.” “Departed Friends.” “The Ladies ’’ and “The Caterer.” Songs were sung to the accompaniment of Mr Fox by Messrs Foster, Long, Guise, Russell, Henderson, Shannon, Hancock, Ashton, Price, and Clark. Mr Shannon gave a recitation, and Messrs Oclerang and Delaney a step dance.
