The Rev Dr Forsaith, Premier of the New Zealand “ Glean Shirt ” Ministry, is dead. NORFOLK ISLAND. SYDNEY,, Nov. 30. In the Legislative Assembly this afternoon, Mr Sleath moved the adjournment to call attention to a scandal at Norfolk Island. He alleged that the Governor was incompetent, and that his actions brought disgrace and discredit upon the island. The motion was ruled out of order, on the ground fihafctho subject was covered by the Estimates, and could not be raised on the question of adjournment. A PRISONER’S RIGHTS. A unique point was raised to-day regarding the status of a prisoner. The plaintiff sued the Government for damages.for the loss of an eye through tho bursting ohagangs glass on a boiler alleged to be defective, while the plaintiff was in prison. The Judge nonsuited the plaintiff',., rding- that whatever the moral obligation of .the-Go-vernment might ba, the plaintiff bad nodogal claim agaist the Government. A SUBMARINE BOAT. In connection with the recent publication of verses by Professor Marshall Hail, which raised the ire of the religionists of Victoria, the Presbyterian Assembly passed strictures on the work which called forth an extraordinary letter from Mr Hail to tha Assembly. He sneers at them.as latter-day fishermen, and asks .why they shoiiid'-permit themselves to save souls at the pitiful minimum wage of £3OO a year. He refers -te a leading divine as “Holy Wiffie.” NEW SOUTH WALES POLITICS. There was a warm debate in the,Legislative Assembly on the appointment of tha PuMic Works Committee. The Government was accused of using the position as-a reward to its supporters. The Premier was called to order for stating that a member who imputed motives had been a rank failure in the House. Ultimately, the difficulty was smoothed over' by the appointment of two Oppositionists. MURDER IN A MINE. • PERTH, Nov .30. A body has been found murdered in a mine. It is believed to ha that of a Sweda named Petersen, who disappeared three months ago. A HEALTHY, SIGN. MELBOURNE, Nov. 30. As an indication of returning prosperity, it may be stated that the National Bank of Australasia shortly pays off half, ahd the Bank of Victoria onst-third of Die deferred deposits, a portion of which is not due till 1905. SUPPOSED MURDER. A human thigh was found in the Yam near the spot where an. arm was recently discovered.
