UNION SHIPPING COMPANY.
TO THE EDITOR. ■ Sir, —What has come over that pushing institution, tho Union Steam ■ Company recently ?Of late, on b veal occasions, there lias been no boat fr, m Lyttelton on Wednesdays to, connect, with Auckland steamer via Taranaki, leaving Wellington on Thursdays, thus depriving businessmen of one of the two through weekly mails by the route mentioned. I further note that they are not recognising the big exhibition, which opens in Auckland to-morrow, by way of cheap-ex-cursion fares.: Nor are they showing any signs of the customary cheap return trips at Christmas time. When all this is borne in mind, coupled with the fact of the recent increase in both freights and passenger rates, it almost looks as if they were tempting an opposition service.—l am, etc., COMMERCIAL.
