MARKET REPORTS.

GRAIN AND PRODUCE. The shipments of grain and produce from Lyttelton for tho past week were noticeable chiefly for the large quantities of onions and potatoes that were taken away. The list includes nearly 22,000 sacks of potatoes and 2500 sacks of onions. The chief lines are as follow : —lOl3 sacks wheat, 28 sacks oats, 1367 sacks and 670 bags flour, 137 sacks barley, 47 sacks malt, 211 sacks meal, 265 sacks bran, 156 sacks sharps, 122 sacks pollard, 186 sacks peas, 26 sacks beans, 857 sacks seed, 2513 sacks onions', 21,912 sacks potatoes, 63 sacks chaff, 48 cases bacon, 42 cases butter, 36 cases cheese, 50 cases tongues,. VO. casks tallow. PROPERTY SALES. On Saturday Messrs Tonks, Norton and Go. offered for sale by auction the property known, as the Addington Soapworks, which foi many years were occupied by the late Mr John King. The property consisted of an acre of land in Selwyn Street, with the works and machinery, and also an eight-roomed Louse. After some little competition, Messrs C-r. W. Hulme and Co. became tho purchasers at £4SO. On Saturday at Ashburton, Mr D. Thomas offered by auction nine acres of land with dwelling-house, situated on the Wakanui Road, about half a mile from Ashburton township. The property was knocked down at £865. HORSE SALES. There were fair entries of horses at the markets* on Saturday, but with the exception of a few fair to good draughts, there were not many animals worthy of notice on offer. A couple of good useful farm horses brought £3l 10s and £27, and medium to good draughts £ls to £l9 10s. Two or three blood animals, a trotting pony and a hunter, were withdrawn, the prices offered being much too low to effect a sale. A few light animals changed hands at prices ranging from £1 to £B. At Ashburton on Saturday a consignment o i twenty-two draught and light horses from Sydney were offered by auction, and sold at the following prices:—Draughts: Fnly, 4yrs, £24; gelding, 4yrs, £2l ; gelding, 3yrs, £25; gelding, 4yrs, £23; gelding, 4yrs, £ls 10s; colt, 4yrs, £l7 10s; filly, 4yrs, £l7 10s; gelding, 4yrs, £l4; colt, 4yrs, £lB ; colt, 4yrs, £22 10s : filly, oyrs, £l6 10s ; gelding, 7yrs, £25 ; gelding, syrs, £l9 10s. Light horses brought from £1 to £7. PIGS AND POULTRY. There w r ore only small yardiugs of pigs at Saturday’s markets, and these were nearly all small stores and suckers and weaners, for which there is very little demand. Medium entries of poultry met a fair demand for all good sorts, but inferior birds were not in request.. Prices realised wore:—For Pms : Small stores, up to 8s 6d ; suckers and weanor.-, from 2s 6d to 6s. For Poultry: Roosters, from 2s to 4s 3d ; hens, Is 6d to 2s 6d, and up to 4s for fancy breeds ; ducks, 3s to 4s 3d ; geese, 4s 6d to 5s 6d ; and turheys, from 7s to- 12s-6d; all at per pair.
