United Press Association—By Electric Telegraph— Copyright. Eeceived March 28,10.10 a.m, MELBOURNE, March 28. A fire in Prell’s Buildings melted a water-pipe on the upper floor, but the flames were extinguished before they got a secure hold of the building.
Mr Mahon’s house at West Oxford, with its contents, was destroyed by fire on Saturday, at 1.30 a.m. There was just time to rescue the children and get out a little clothing and bedding. The outbuildings were saved by the dogged perseverance of Mr and Mrs Mahon, who had a bountiful supply of water from the race close by, though during this time the smoke and heat from the house were hard to bear. The insurance is ,£l7O in the National office. The actual loss will, perhaps, amount to about <£lso. Much sympathy is felt for the family, who are held in high regard by their neighbours.
