CITY RIFLES. The City Eifles-paraded last night aktha drillshed, and were exercised in company ririn Captain Fairbarmwas in command, and Lieutenants Hawdon 'and Lonisson were also present, and forty-two rank and file were on parade. One new -member was elected.

At the conclusion of the drill the-rinnual general meeting of the corps was held,, and Captain Fairbaim presided. The balancesheet showed (receipts., for the year .£lB9 17s 4d; expenditure, .£lB3 7s 7d; credit balance at bank, £6 9s 9d. The value of assets belonging to tiro-company was £223 15s 3d, liabilities J 839 16s lOd. The report of the Shooting Committee showed an increased interest in shooting matters, which was-douhtless owing to the company’s having obtained a t supply of reliable ammunition. Some good young shots were coming forward,-and the corps should be able to put a strong-team in the field next year. One member of the com--1 pnny had visited the Rifle Association meeting at Oamarn. Both reports were unanimously adopted. Captain Fairbaim comgratulated the company on its increased efficiency, sixty out of sixty-two men having earned capitation. The two who had not earned it had left the district, and had qualified with the exception of volley-firing. The squad competitions of last year had worked a complete transformation in the corps, and for this the greatest credit was due to the non-com-missioned-officers. The corps had won the prize in the squad competition, and they would have to decide later on how that prize should be allocated. The company camp had been a very successful ono,-anci he looked forward with confidence to th* part the company would play in the coming encampment. He must congratulate the company on its-financial position, and had forgotten to mention that the company possessed J 672 9s 5d in cash assets, in addition to the value of the assets already mentioned. A hearty vote of thanks was accorded by acclamation to Colour-Ser-geant Bean for his services as secretary and treasurer to the corps. The following were then elected.officers for the ensuing year:—Secretary, Colour-Sergeant Bean j finance committed Sergeants Jackson and Trebilcock; storekeeper, Sergeant Hopkins; auditors. Corporal Woodfield and Private Webb; shooting committee, Colour-Sergeant Bean, Sergeants Jackson and Trebilcock, Lance-Corporal Spry, and Private Webb; delegates to Range Association, Sergeant Jackson and Private Williams; custodian of ammunition,, Ser-geant-Jackson.
