MEETING OF CREDITORS.
GEORGE RICHARD ATHEY.
The first meeting of the creditors in the estate of George Richard Athey, brewer, was held at the office of the Official Assignee yesterday morning. Mr Beattie appeared for the debtor. There were six creditors present. The debtor’s statement showed: Liabilities Unsecured creditors" £175 10s 6d, assets £4O. There were fifteen unsecured creditors, those for amounts of £5 and over being:— W. Fraser £ls 10s, W. Alexander £6, Dr Parsons £8 Ss, John Davis £ls, E. Dombrain £23 7s, E. C. Hoddinott £2B Bs, W. Eckersloy £l2. The bankrupt on oath stated that he was a brewer and had been three years in Christchurch. There was an unregistered hill of sale over his furniture to G. Sheppard, transferred to W. E. Rose to secure £36, value of a piano, and £23 cash lent. Ho had been paying £8 per month for the first two months and £4 per month since for interest and repayment of capital. Until Dec. 31 last he was receiving £l6 per month, with house and coal free from Mr Egan, of Kaiapoi. His nresent position was caused by the longcontinued illness of his wife, which must have cost him about £2OO in cash, besides what was still owing. She’ had about £75 in remittances from Home. After some further examination, it was resolved—“ That the whole of the household furniture and effects in excess of the amount the debtor is entitled to under tne Act he given him; and that the creditors present, being satisfied with tbe bankrupt’s conduct, recommend that his discharge be granted as soon as possible.”
