SWIMMING.

Last evening the Richmond Swimming Club swam off the heats of the 100yds March Handicap, which had been postponed from last Monday on account of Mr Wauchop’s death. The following are the results:—

First heat: J. Northey, 16sec, 1; C. Craddock, 23sec, 2. C. L. H. Hiorns sseo and E. M. Vickorman l4:sec also started. A good race : Hiorns close up third. Time—SSJsec. Second heat: A. B. T'ruscott, scr, 1; J. E. Allen, 14sec, 2. IV. J. Byrne Usee and W. H. Cooke 14sec also swam. Truscott swam with considerable judgment, and won on the touch. Time—76Jsec. Third heat; F. G. Gardiner, 17sec, 1; W. G. Strange, 9sec, 2. J. L. Northey, I tseo, also competed. A very exciting race between ail three. Time—9osec, The final will be swum this afternoon, when the Electric Dash Handicap, for which the Club has received the record number of fifty-five entries, will be decided. The following are the points scored up to the present for the Layman Boat trophy presented to the Richmond Club by Mr W. Reece:—L. Shand and C. L. Hiorns, 5 points; W. H. Cooke and, P. L. Byrne, 4 points; J.. Northey,'C. Bassett, C. : Ansley, R. Trent and G. H. Lawrence, 3'pdihts. The interest taken in this-competition is very keen indeed, as the trophy is a valuable one. The Christchurch Swimming ;i3lub will hold two consolation races at the West Christchurch Baths at three o’clock this afternoon, for prizes presented by Messrs Walter Johnston and D. Sinclair.
