By 2- p.m. .considerably over 2000 people had assembled , on the ground, and the various amusements provided were well patronised. The wants of the children were well looked after, and races, under the supervision of the Rev Father Marnane, Messrs J. ; C. Cusack, Fox and M’Cormick, were entered into with zest. A programme of sports was held in the afternoon, and the following were the results — , ALTAR BOYS' BACK—H. Mills, 1; B, Delahunty, 2. RT BATF.ICK’S HANDICAP First heat, 100yds : J. W. Howard, 1 ; C. The tug of war between teams from the St Mary’s parish and the Pro-Cathedral caused a great deal of excitement. The first pull between the two teams was rendered futile by the fact that spectators joined in the contest. At the second pull, after a hard struggle, the St Mary’s team pulled their opponents over, and well deserved the medals that were awarded to them. .Owing to rain coining on, several of the events were postponed. No mishap marred the day’s enjoyment.
