HUMANITY.

TO THE EDITOR,

Sib, —It is a matter of regret that in tho turmoil of debate in Wellington,

humanity for those who have borne the burden and heat of the day, is lost sight of. Charles Dickens, the novelist and humanitarian, said in Martin Chuzzlewit: —“ If ever you become a rich or powerful man, you shall try to make your Government more careful of its subjects.” What Charles Dickens said to Sarah Gamp I would say to the members of that ancient and effete institution, the Upper House — “ A little less liquor and a little more humanity.” The administration-of a young 'colony should not be devoid of the bowels of compassion. A campaign of educating the people is urgently required.—l am, &c„ *YEAST.
