SCHOOL COMMITTEES.

The monthly meeting of the Cust School Committee took place on Monday evening j present—Messrs Forbes (chairman), Lee, M’Laughlan, Walker, Cleaver, Hassall and M’Kie. Correspondence was received from the Education Board stating that the school would be examined on Sept. 14. It was resolved that the school should be closed for a week after examination. It was decided to make a grant of £1 towards the funds of the boys’ cricket club. A subcommittee was appointed to examine the school well, and, if necessary, to have it cleaned out and deepened. At the ordinary monthly meeting of the East Eyreton School Committee there were present—Messrs G. Chilton (chairman), E. Murphy, L. Giles, B. Giles, T. Denton and J. Cook. The report from the mistress showed that there were forty children on the roll, and that the average attendance was thirty-one. The arrangements in connection with the annual concert in aid of the prize funds were deferred till next meeting. The Leeston School Committee met on Monday evening ; present—Messrs John Burnett (chairman), W. Marshall and A. Anderson. The only business transacted was the passing of small accounts. It was decided to give the scholars a fortnight’s holiday after the examination. The inspector’s report stated—“ The masterful manner in which Mr Garrard has entered upon his duties; gives every reason to anticipate his complete success in maintaining the prestige which the school has held under his predecessors.” It was decided that a vote of thanks should be recorded to the staff for the excellent results achieved at ! the late examination, and that the secretary should convey the resolution to the headmaster. Accounts for £5 13s lOd were passed for payment.
