❖ - [Per Press Association, t INVERCARGILL, Sept. 7. The Wellington representative team arrived this afternoon, and had a fitting reception. The weather, which has been dry and clear for some weeks, broke this forenoon with a slight thunderstorm,, heavy cold showers and gusty wind, and matters are nob too promising for the interprovincial match to-morrow. Mackenzie is unwell, and is not expected to play. A meeting of the committee of the Canterbury Rugby Union was held in the Clarendon Hotel last evening; present— Messrs A. E. G. Rhodes (chairman), J. C. Adams, H. Frost, P. E. Asquith, T. M. Biintih, F.' T.'Evans, G." H. Mason and W. G. Garrard (honorary secretary). An apology for absence was received from Mr J. U. Collins. ‘■The Secretary reported that seventeen entries had; been received for the seven-a-side- President’s Cup tournambnt, to be held : Lancaster Park on Saturday next, commencing at two o’clock, and Messrs 'Frost' and ■ Buntin and the Secretary were appointed a sub-committee to supervise arrangements in connection therewith. A communication was received from the South ' Canterbury Union, stating that as Sept. 16—the date fixed for their match - with Canterbury—was also a race day, they could not play on that day, and as no other suitable day could be arranged, the match was dropped. The majority of the team selected to represent . the Ellesmere district on the West Coast about the middle of the month played a pr actice match against a No. 2 team at Leeston on Saturday last, when, despite the fact that there were several emergencies in the team, and that the second team were allowed to play sixteen men, the champions ” won easily by fourteen points to nil. E. Graham scored two tries, and R. Coe and John Eennie one try each, Thorne kicking a goal from Coa’s try. Mr Ct. Heslop was referee. The following are the teams chosen to play in the final trial match next Saturday at Lancaster Park: —A Team (red and black) Craddock, Orchard, Hobbs, Menzies, Middleton, Price, Fitzgerald, Clark, Sanders, ’ Frost, Kerr, Chambers, Ebert, Evans and Eevell. B Team (colours) Dansey,' Brown, Lorimer, Tendall, Glennie, Townend, Johnstone, Duncan, Lynskey, Thompson, Brooker, Ward, Pascoe, Duggan, Driscoll, Marriner and T. Phillips. Emergencies—H. Phillips and Preece. Any of the above unable to play are requested to inform the Secretary at once. - Training will be held at the rooms to-morrow night at 7.30. The team for the southern tour will be chosen next Saturday night.
