SPORTING.

SYDNEY TRAINING NOTES. [Per Press Association.) SYDNEY, Sept. 6. There is fine weather for training, and a good deal of useful work is being put in. Coil, who is particularly well, gave Projectile a six lengths’ beating over once round in 2min 36:1 sec, while Toreador disposed of El Norte over the same distance in. two seconds longer. Surge did excellent work, beating Fucile and Amberiie over a mile and a half. Heritas has been scratched for the Epsom and Metropolitan Handicaps. There is a fair amount of speculation on the Epsom Handicap. Parthenopseus heads the list at 100 to 9, The Chief is quoted at 100 to 8, Philip, Survivor and Metford each 100 to 7, the others 100 to 5 and 100 to 4. For the Metropolitan Handicap Coil is a firm favourite at 8 to I, Woodford, Partlienopisus and Clansman cadi 12 to 1, Semiramis and Positano each 14 to 1. WELLINGTON PACING CLUB. WELLINGTON, Sept. 6. ■ The annual meeting of the Wellington Eacing Club was held this evening. The report and balance-sheet were adopted after a short discussion. Messrs W. E. Bidwell, J. J. Curtis, .1. B. Harcourt, G. Hutchison, M.H.E., E. J. Eiddiford and J. Saunders and the Hon C. J. Johnston, M.L.C., were elected stewards. A motion that the minimum weight in handicaps should be raised from 6st 71b to 7st was negatived. A motion was carried that it should be a recommendation to the new committee to make arrangements tor issuing licenses to bookmakers, also one that it should be an instruction to the new stewards to move at the next racing conference that racing clubs should have the right to pay totalisator dividends on first and second horses. The question of a new racecourse created a good deal of discussion, and considerable opposition was shown against removing to Miramar. A motion to adjourn consideration of the report of the committee in favour of Miramar was lost. The expression of opinion was generally in favour of bridging the Hutt Eiver, with a view to offering better facilities for the conveyance of the public to the present course. Ultimately the committee’s report was rejected.
