PRESENTATIONS.

In the Marshlands schoolroom on Friday evening, in the presence of a largo social gathering, Mr Edwin Hcnshali was presented with a handsome marble clock, which, bovo the following inscription : “ Presented to Mr E. llensha.ll by tho parishioners of St Mark’s, Marshlands, as a memento of his long and faithful services as organist.” The Rev T. A. Meyer, on behalf of tho donors, made the presentation, and spoke in eulogistic terms of the services rendered by Mr Heushall in the capacity of organist and worker in tho church for many years. Tho gift was intended as a slight token of their esteem and appreciation Air A. Malcolm also spoke in flattering terms, and Mr liensha.il returned thanks. During the evening refreshments were served by tbe lady members of tho church, and a capital programme of instrumental and vocal selections was contributed by Messrs J. Head, J. Powell, B. A*. Malcolm, O. Head, AV. Nesbitt, IT. Allen, 0. H. Leigh Walter and W. Head, Misses Nicholls, C. Mussen, K. Tisch, E. Nioholls, L. Tisch, Wilson, Sands, L. Law, M. Sands and blaster Hopkins.

About seventy ladies and gentlemen were present at the Orange Hall, Ashburton, on Saturday evening, to bid farewell to Mr and Mrs St George Douglas, upon their departure to Hokitika. His Worship tho Mayor presided, and on behalf of the subscribers presented to Mr Douglas a handsome gold hunting watch and chain and to Airs Douglas a. gold watch, as mementos of the twenty years they had spent in Ashburton. The health of Mr and Airs Douglas was drunk in champagne with musical honours, and Dr Trevor, Air Hugo Friedlander, Hon Major Steward, Air Ferriman, Air Paul and Air Ivess spoke in terms of regret at losing them. Air Douglas expressed his gratification at the many kindly remarks made regarding him and his family, and tho proceedings were closed with tho National Anthem. Mr and Mrs Douglas loft Ashburton for Christchurch by the first train yesterday morning. The ‘ Ashburton Rifles paraded for Divine service on tiunday morning, at St Stephen’s Church. After service the company marched to the drdlsiied, wnero several of the old officers of the corps, and the now disbanded Ashburton Guardwere gathered to bid farewell to AlajoiDouglas. Captain Dolman addressed the men, and expressed regret at losing - an officer who had belonged to the company since its enrolment. Ho then presented a handsome binocular Held glass, with case and sling, to remind Major Douglas oi the esteem in which he was nelch Alter three hearty cheers, the men were dismissed.
