ROAD BOARDS.

KOWAI. The monthly meeting of this Board was held on Thursday ; present—Messrs Holdsworth (chairman), Dick, E vans and Mathers. Correspondence was read From Mr C. Ensor, relative to forming a further portion of the Dalbeg Road. Resolved—To complete the work as far as M’Adam’s. Corner. From the Maudeville and Rangiora Road Board, in reply, stating that the willows in the lower Ashley had been cut. Tho Clerk to reply that in the opinion of the Kowaißoad Board the willows had been insufficiently cut, they being left so as to impede the flow of flood water. From the Land and Survey Department, Wellington, enclosing copy of objection from the Rangiora Borough Council to contribute to the proposed ford at the Ashley township. Resolved—That the necessary steps be taken to obtain authority from tho Department to proceed with the work. srom Air G. H. N. llelmore relative to growth of gorse ou road fronting Air Dowic’s property. Resolved—That Mr Taylor be informed of tho result of tho inquiry. From the Railway Department as to lease of gravel pit ou the Kowai. The Clerk to reply that it was not the intention of the Board to pay any further rent. The correspondence from tho Land and Survey Department, Christchurch, regarding the three-chain road and railway reserve was read, and a further reply ordered to be sent. Messrs M’Adam, M’Lean and Jackson waited on the Board, asking, on behalf of the Leithfield School Committee, that a row of pipes might be laid across tbe North Road, opposite the proposed hath site. Request granted, the committee to give an under taking to keep tho dram open, and tho excavations and filling-in to be done to tho satisfaction of. the surveyor. S. Dalzell’s tenders for supply of shingle were accepted. The Surveyor was instructed to ascertain what contribution would be given towards the proposed protective work in the Ashley, the Board contributing £ for £ collected. Resolved—“ That the Maudeville and Eangiora Road Board be informed of tho necessary repairs required to be done to the lower Ashley traffic bridge; that Messrs Duncan and Cotterill bo written to respecting the cleaning out of Ward’s Creek, Amberley: that Messrs Liggett and Tuttou be . informed that the Board’s notice to trim back overhanging trees ou public roads had not been complied with. After passing accounts for payment the meeting terminated.
