FIRE BRIGADES’ CONFERENCE.

At the Fire Brigades’ was resolved to accept au invitation from Auckland to bold the next demonstration and conference there, if the cost of travel were found not too heavy. If the expense should be prohibitive, the brigades are to be consulted as to what should bo done. Votes of thanks to the Port Brigade and the Hon A. J. Cadman concluded the meeting. , A meeting of the Accident Assurance Society was then held, Superintendent Smith (Christchurch) presiding. The balance-sheet showed that A4310s had been paid on accident claims. There is a credit balance of J335511s lOd. The general opinion was expressed that the rules did not contemplate making grants to a member catching rheumatism by getting wet at a fire. A motion to reduce the contribution was lost on the voices. Superintendent E. Smith was elected president. Captains Fooks, Hall and Superintendent J. Smith vice-presidents, • and Superintendent Gilberd secretary and treasurer. At the Dunedin Central station to-night an exhibition of a telescope ladder was given, for the benefit of the delegates, who were afterwards entertained at a “ social.”
