It was resolved to acquaint the Government with the fact that Mr W. J. Baxter had been recommended for appointment as a member of the. South Malvern Cemetery Board. Correspondence was read concerning the safety and control of the Selwyn traffic bridge; but, iu the absence of certain necessary information from the Government, it was decided to postpone consideration of the subject until a future meeting. In the event of an inquiry as to who should control the bridge being held before next meeting of the Council, it was decided that the Council should be represented by counsel. Sir John Hall interviewed the Council on behalf of residents on the Hororata River, and pointed out that the water-race was taking all the water away from the river and leaving those whose properties abutted thereon without supplies. He urged that the water should occasionally be turned off from the races and allowed to flow into the river. It was ultimately decided to divert a third of the water into the river for one week to see what effect it would have. The recommendation of the Finance Committee that new forms should b 6 provided for the registration of dogs, allowing for the declaration as to 171161(1161’ a dog was used for shepherds’ or drovers purposes or not, was adopted. Accounts to the amount of .£1543 16s lid were passed for payment, and after dealing with water-race and slaughter-house business the meeting closed.
