SCHOOL TREATS.
The children attending the Kaiapoi Native school, in charge of their teachers and the Chairman of the School Committee, accompanied also by some of their parents, had a most enjoyable day's outing at Sumner on Thursday. The party left the pa in drags at 8 a.m., arriving at Sumner at 11. They -were liberally supplied with refreshments. During the day the young folk thoroughly enjoyed themselves on the beach, donkey riding being the chief attraction. A start was made for home at six o’clock. Before dispersing hearty, cheers were given for the donors of funds for the treat, as also for Mr and Mrs Beeves. The annual treat of the Sefton school was held on Friday. There was a large attendance of school children, parents and friends. Mr John Wilson placed the large skating rink at the disposal of the committee. i Lunch and, afterwards, tea were provided therein for one and all. The children met at the school, and after having indulged in various games an adjournment was made to the rink for lunch, after which a move was made to the Sefton Domain, where tho children indulged in races for toys, and various games were engaged in until the rain caused them to again return to the rink. Each child attending the school at the last examination was then presented by the Chairman, on behalf of the committee, with a book. After more play tea was provided, and the youngsters went home well pleased with their, clay’s outing. In the evening a “ social ” was’held in the rink, which‘ ‘was well patronised, and dancing was kept up till early morning to the music supplied, by Mr Parker. "A proposal that the Eangiora Church of England and Presbyterian Sunday schools should combine with the borough school for the annual treat to tho children has been agreed to, and a committee of delegates from each school has been appointed to carry out the arrangements. It is hoped that next summer, instead of the Sunday schools and day schools holding separate treats, tho whole will amalgamate for a gathering of all the children in the borough.
