LAND BOARD.

. An ordinary meeting of the Canterbury Land Board was held on Thursday; present—Messrs J. W. A. Marchant (Commissioner of Crown Lands), D. M’Millan and A. C. Pringle. The following applications for land were granted :—Sections 14, 15 and 16, block IX., Cheviot, J. H. Pierson ; section 566 a, Grey District, 3 acres 2 roods, executors late G. Douglas ; section 8, LowryTeaks, 10 acres, F. Morgan. A number of applications for freehold titles and transfers of leases of licenses were dealt with. Messrs Davis and M’Donald . were granted permission to erect a hut 'on the Roadman’s reserve, Castle Hill. Several matters in connection with the Pastoral Tenants’ Relief Act were dealt with. An inquiry was held by the Board into charges of alleged dummyism made against Messrs Birdling • Brothers with certain lands at Late Ellesmere, and after careful consideration of the evidence, it was resolved that the Board was of (opinion that the charge of dummyism and of the lessees not holding their lands for tlieir Own use and benefit, had not been substantiated. The Board : expressed the opinion. , that., the. three leaseholds in question were not suitable for the enforcement of immediate residential occupation, and would not. call upon the Messrs Birdling to comply therewith for the present, but they would be required to comply as far as reasonable and proper with the other conditions of their leases.
