FIRE.

[Per Press Association.]*

AUCKLAND, August 24. The shop and residence: of J. M’Mahon, bootmaker, Hamilton, was completely destroyed by fire at two o’clock this morning. Four occupants, who were sleeping in an upper story, had a narrow escape, but succeeded in lowering themselves to a verandah by a rope. The wind was favourable, otherwise the whole street, including Gwynne’s Hotel, would have gone. The insurances are unknown. Nothing was saved.
