PRESENTATION TO MR D. CRAIG.

The past and present staff of the Canterbury Branch of the New Zealand Insurance Company invited Mr David Craig, who hag been for many years manager of this branch, to meet them on Saturday ini order that they might show their appreciation of his efforts during the time they have been connected with him. Mr Lythberg, chief clerk, in presenting Mr Craig with a handsome pair of field-glasses and a gold' pencil-case, on' behalf of the staff, expressed their regret at bidding farewell to their respected and esteemed principal, who was leaving the branch after having managed it for some twenty-eight years; to take up the important position 1 of general manager of the company; They parted with him with mingled feelings of regret and satisfaction. He could assure Mr Craig that they would feel j his absence very, much; but, it wad pleasing to them to know that their loss would be his gain, and would also be to the advantage of the company. Those who had served under him for many years would agree that a more kind, considerate and just chief it would be difficult to find. In conclusion they wished Mr and Mrs Craig every success in their new sphere, and asked his acceptance of the small tokens of the high esteem in which he ■ had always been held by the staff of the Canterbury, branch. Mr Craig feelingly replied, assuring them that he felt the parting very much, but would endeavour to promote the welfare of all in his new sphere, and hoped to meet many of them from time to time.
