[Per Press Association.] WELLINGTON, March 28. , The Sev Evans, who was appointed supervisor to the Charitable Aid Board,, reports that insufficient inquiry is mado : about recipients of aid, and that they are not watched enough to prevent fraud. Intemperance and other vices existed. Some of the recipients ought to he struck oh the list and a stricter system, instituted. A lady visitor, independent of the Benevolent Trustees, should he appointed. No cases, however, should be refused whoro help was necessary, but there were many who would not go to the institution. The Marine Department has decided to lease, the oyster fisheries in Manukau Harbour, and to close the harbour against oyster fishing until the lease has been arranged. The districts that will he open for oyster fishing this year in the North Island will be on the east coast between North. Cape and the Waitangi River in the Bay of Islands, where the Inspector of Fisheries, who has recently made an inreports that there are sufficient oysters for all purposes during the coming season, which in the North Island opens on April 1. The Rugby Union has. passed a resolution, that while Wellington is the most convenient place for the management of the football of the colony, it would offer no; opposition to the change of head-quarters if any other centre wished to take over the management of the New Zealand Union. !. The Alameda’s mail, which loft Auckland, on Feb. 22, arrived at London, on, March 26, one day late.
