ALMSGIVING.
TO THE EDITOE. Sib,— Having occasion to look at Saturday morning’s paper, I was much surprised to find that the Bishop of Christchurch had invited the different churches in,his diocese to give their collections on the day following to the Brunnerton Disaster Fund.. Firstly, no notice being given, of the same, but poor collections will be obtained. Secondly, I think it far better for the sake of the fund that the money should be collected in the way suggested by the Premier, i.e., through the local bodies, as many, when asked to give, will say, “ I gave in church.” Perhaps they did so—one shilling at the most, whereas had they to put their names down five shillings would be the least they would like to see. May I add that lam a contributor of £1 Is to the fund, and aim anxious that the same should obtain every possible help, but not at the expense of iny church, which I also have to support. Last Sunday was Church Mission Fund, to-day as the Bishop suggested, on Good Friday something else, Easter Sunday the clergyman, and a few Sundays since we had a Maori collection. Ido not think I shall take any office in the church next year.—l am, Ac., WEST COAST. ,
