UNION ROWING CLUB.
The annual smoke concert and distribution of prizes in connection with the Union Rowing Club took place at the boatshed last evening. Mr J. Gould, President of the Club, occupied the chair. There were about seventy members present as well as several visitors, including Mr W. W. Collins, M.H.R. The usual loyal and patriotic toasts having been disposed of, the Chairman presented the prizes won during the season, and in doing so said it was absolutely necessary for members to attend strictly to training if they wished the club to maintain the position it had held in former years. Prizes were presented to the following: A. Nicholls, Junior Double Sculls (Akaroa . regatta). President’s Cup and opening day race C. Ebert, Junior Double Sculls (Akaroa regatta). President’s Cup and opening day race; J. Smith, Trial Pairs and Trial Double Sculls; D. Lee, President’s Cup; J. R Norris,. President’s Cup; H. A. Caratly, Trial. Pairs; H. Berry, Trial Double Sculls ; W. P. Samuels, opening day race; E. IV. Davidson, coxswain’s prize; The following toasts were then disposed of “ Headquarters,” proposed by Mr P. D. Kesteven and responded to by Mr G. Gould, president of the New Zealand Rowing Association; “ The Victors,” proposed by Mr G. Mason and replied to by Messrs D. Lee and C. Ebert; “The Vanquished,” proposed by Mr P. Hyman and replied to by Mr A. B. Charters; “Our Worthy Poes,” proposed by Mr W. W. Collins ; “ All and Sundry,” by Mi- A. E-J
Craddock, “ Kindred Sports,” “The Ladies ” and “ The Press.” During the evening vocal and instrumental items were given by Messrs J. C. and A. Allan, F. Collins, G. H. Mason, A. B. Charters, G. Cropp, G. Ebert, F. Hyman and W. G. Roberts, and recitations by Mr J. S. Howell and Master Davidson.
