ROAD BOARDS.

SPRINGS. An ordinary meeting of this Board was held on Tuesday, all the members being present. The Resident Engineer wrote drawing the Board’s attention to the nuisance caused by cattle grazing on the road through railway reserve from Greenpark to Rabbit Island. The letter was referred to the ranger, and it was decided

to summon all those who made a practice of herding their cattle on the public roads. A deputation from Greenpark, consisting of Messrs ,L G. Murray, P. Murray, Hubbard ifefd Bearman, waited on the Board and presented a petition pointing out the necessity for better drainage on various roads near Lake Ellesmere. The Board decided to make a drain on the side of Hubbard’s and Hudson’s Roads, and to put a larger culvert across Hubbard’s Road, on condition that the petitioners paid a certain amount of the cost _of making the. drain. The overseer’s report was read and considered, and iLwas.deeided to call tenders for clearing the main drains in the district, and to make an open crossing across the old Selwyn Road opposite Mr W. Ellis’s land. The Clerk also reported having repaired damages on Day’s Road caused by a traction engine hauling grain, the account for which was ordered to be sent to the owner. The matter of renewing the bridge at Elleslnere, consideration of which was deferred from last meeting, was considered. Various members had inspected the bridge, and were of opinion that such a large structure was not necessary.
