THE BELIEF FUND.
•SHE BISHOP’S APPEAL TO THE DIOCESE. TO THE . EDITOR. Sir, — Will you kindly allow me through rOur columns to address the members of the Anglican Church, and, if I may venture to do so, even those of other communions in regard to the recent terrible disaster. The cry of the widows and orphans is as the voice of God calling r .O aid them in their affliction.. We cannot risk our lives as the brave fellows on the Coast are doing, but we can make some sacrifice in aid of the relief fund. Next Sunday is the'first day of the Holy Week. Let it call us not to idle sentiment, but to the practical following of Christ, who gave Himself for us. I desire that prayer be madein behalf of the sufferers in all churches of the diocese, and I earnestly request that the clergy, with consent of the church officers, will devote the offertories on Sunday next to the relief ■ fund, ami urge their people to show a practical and ready sympathy with their brethren in distress. The offertories in the Cathedral at all the services ‘ will be given to the fund.—l am, &e. C. CHRISTCHURCH.
