V TO THE EDITOR. ’ .Sir, —In reference to your report in JLyttelton_ Times of a fire at (Stoke, yourcorrespondent has been wrongly informed when he says Mr E.|Mercdith, jun., rode off* and (informed a number of men employcd-afeilr Searles’ threshing machine. One of n£y men and myself saw the smoke; we roused the others and started off oh the run acrosndlie paddocks, and were half-way there, before we saw Mr Meredith, jun., who waaiiding towards the fire on horseback. —I,am, &c., .
