FROZEN MEAT.
TO THE EDITOR. Sib,— ln your columns you have frequently extolled the superiority of Canterbury mutton over that from other parts of New Zealand. On the other hand, the Loudon correspondent of at least two of your contemporaries, in a letter published this week, referring to the London wholesale quotation for best Canterbury mutton, says ; —“ It must of course be distinctly understood in this connection that ‘Can terbury 5 simply means the ‘be:it’ in the sense of the highest quality in the market, and the classification ‘ Canterbury ’ includes some of ■ the, best meat sent from Wellington, Hawke’s Bay and Otago. If carcases are of the finest quality, and the size most favourable at Sniithfield, then that becomes ‘ Canterbury,’ no matter what .may be their place of origin.” This is a statement that is often made and as often denied. Mr Yv r . Weddel’s presence in Christchurch affords an opportunity to obtain a decision on the point. I respectfully ask him to give a categorical answer, through your columns, to the question: Is the statement made in the foregoing quotation correct or otherwise ? I am, &c JEALOUSY.
