SOLITARY CONFINEMENT.
TO THE EDITOR. Sir, —The Minister of Justice should be requested to investigate the case of the youth James Gillispie, who was sentenced last week to eight days’ solitary confinement for escaping from the constable who had charge of him. The lad. has already been in Lyttelton Gaol for six months, and the treatment he has received is sufficient to make a hardened criminal of him, and a further sentence of three nu.i-itlis is awaiting him. A great outcry is made about the need of protection for onr gin a. i n many cases it seems equally necessary to Uotri se gome means of protecting our boys. —1 am, &c., A PARENT.
