The fortnightly meeting ,ofthovcojnI'mittee of the Progressive Liberal Asaocia--1 tion was held in the Temperance HaM, Gloucester Street, on Thursday evening.; .Mr T. J. Gledhill, president, occupied the : i chair, and there was a good attendance, .despite the wet night. Several persons! 1 were admitted to membership. Bussell, M.H.E., wrote in reply to a communication asking him to intco- • duce a Bill amending the ‘constitution of ■ tire governing body of Canterbury College stating that he would be willing to .do so, and suggestingthat the Canteubury .members as a whole should be invited-do .discuss the proposed Bill before the House' meets. The suggestion was.appar.ove4, and 'the Secretary was instructed to asfc tbe ; Canterbury College Sub-Committee to ;meet Mr Russell and Mr G. J. Smith,., and ; confer over the proposed measure. Tha s which waited upon Mr 'Charles Lewis, M.H.E., in referenceto the proposed reform of Abe Canter- - 'bury College constitution reported that'. Mr Lewis was in favour of placing the . i election of that body on a more popular basis. Mr Lewis wrote, inviting the Asso- * ■elation to appoint the Secretary, with three ■or four members, to meet him and discuss; the proposals which had been suggested ■to cope with the sweating' evil. ’’The Sweating Committee reported, and. was ■directed to make further inquiries. .The Hon W. M. Bolt, M.L.C., wrote iii reference ,to his address in Christchurch on April 14. The matter of making 'arrangements for the meeting was left in the hands of the Secretary. Dr EmilySfedeborg •wrote thanking the Association for ifcs congratulations, and trusting that manyef her sex would soon be numbered-inthe medical profession. The committee was informed that the teachers at the -Normal School were still selling exercise books,. Ac. The ■Secretary was directed to communicate with the head master in reference to the matter. The committee appointed to prepare the address to be delivered-to the Women’s Convention qn.the subject of .old age pensions, reported that the address . had been prepared, and'would be delivered by Mr T. E. Taylor. A sub-committee was appointed to prepare a platform to be embodied in the circular Iptter, suggesting the formation .of a united platform for the colony. The meeting then closed.
