ATTEMPTED BURGLARY.
AN EXCITING CHASE. Yesterday morning there was a considerable amount of excitement in the Shirley district. A man broke into the house of Mr John Toon, Shirley Road, and stole therefrom a gun and some small articles. Before ha could get clear, however, a huo and cry was raised, and several persons were soon in hot pursuit. The man was bailed ,up in a paddock, bat as he made a threatening demonstration with the gun, no one cared to tackle him, and he broke away again, escaping down Briggs’s Road, the man threw the gun away, probably finding that it encumbered his progress, and attracted notice. When last sighted he was crossing some paddocks, and going toward the city. Ha is described as about twenty-one or twenty-two years of age, tall and slightly built, and fairly well dressed.
