ORANGEISM.

The members of the Lodges of No. 4 District, L.0.L., celebrated the Twelfth of July on Friday evening at the Oddfellows’ Hall. A tea meeting wks held, and was largely attended. The hall was then cleared, and a concert was given. There was a very large audience. Before the programme was gone on with the following resolution was carried— ‘‘Tbit we, members of the Orange Institution and Protestants assembled, view with uncompromising spirit the sophistical , mandate; of Pope Lso XIII. urging the coalition of; the Anglican and Roman Catholic Churches, and renew our fealty to Protestantism, and obstruction to. the uniop.’V . The overture was played by Mr Brockett’s band. Songs were sung by Misses' Campbell, Watson, May Brockett, Hay don, Cunningham and Neave, Messrs H. Price, W. Yates, A. Williams and S. Williamson. Messrs Dickey and Peat gave an Irish song and dance and a long-shoe dance; Master Wade gave a sword dance and a Highland fling; Masters Hanna and Allan a sailors’ hornpipe and Mr P, Seddon a clog-dance. Mr J. Brockett acted as accompanists The National Anthem brought the concert to a close. A large number stayed to the dance which was held afterwards.

The annual church parade took place yesterday. The members assembled at the Orange Hall at 2 p.m, Bro H. Simpson, W.D. Master of No. 4, took charge of the proceedings, and appointed Bro P.D.M. Diffin and W.M. Bro H. Morrow as marshals, Among those present wereP.G. Masters, Bros Redpath, Gebbie and Douglass. The Grand Secretary (Bro Carey), the S.G. Chaplain (Bro Dyson) and E.W.D.G.M. Bro Mathers, represented the Grand Lodge. Besides the officers of the two Christchurch districts, tho following private Lodges were repta* sentad:—No. 1 Linwood, No. 2 and 8 Christchurch, No. 5 St Albans, No. 6 Belfast, No. 16 Sonthbridge, No. 22 Leeston, No. 24 Christchurch, No. 32 Sydenham, No. 33 Richmond, No. 36 Addington, and Ladies’ Lodges Nos. 1,3, 7 and Sonthbridge. The Preceptories of the Royal Black Encampments 438 and 516 were also present under their respective officers, Bros White and Tilleyshort. The Sydenham Band, under Bandmaster M’Lean, headed the procession to St Saviour’s Church, Sydenham, where the service was attended by about three hundred members of the various Lodges and others. The Rev Bro E. A, Scott preached the sermon from the second epistle of Timothy, i., xiii., "Hold fast the form of sound words, which those last heard of Me, in faith and love, which is in Christ Jesus.” The offertory was in aid of the Nelson Orphanage and the poor of Sydenham. After the service, the procession re-formed and marched back to the Orange Hall, where refreshments were provided by the district for the country visitors.

The Orangemen of Ashburton celebrated the Twelfth of July by a. dinner in the Orange Hall on Friday. There was a very large attendance. The usual toasts appropriate to the commemoration were duly honoured. A dance was afterwards hold, and during the evening songs, &c., were contributed by some of the brethren.

No. 24, L.0.L., Temperance Lodge, held an entertainment and “ social " at their Lodge-room, at 8 p.m., on Friday. A good programme was arranged by the No. 1! Ladies* Lodge. Bro Middleton, W.M. of i No. 24, was in the chair. The principal items were songs by Miss Ellison, Sister Allan and Bro Forbes ; violin solo by Misa. Martin, pianoforte selection by Miia Spencer, and two recitations by Master; Clreig. Liberal refreshments were handed round in the course of the evening. Several Grand Lodge officers were present, and spoke upon the success of the meeting.
