I saw the Colonial Treasurer last avening, and though ho was very busy he spared a few minutes to talk of the Sidney Telegraph’s commentson his statement at Auckland on the prospects of trade between New Zealand and Canada. Mr Ward said that the Telegraph’s conclusions were totally unreliable, being based on imperfect knowledge. His critic ignored the fact that ho had negotiated a treaty between the Dominion' and this colony, which, if ratified by the respective Parliaments, would, assuredly lead to a greatly increased trade in articles which were now excluded by high Customs tariffs. He had full infortnation on the subject and ample grounds for the belief bo bad expressed, as would be found when the terms of the tariff agreement were disclosed.
