MACKENZIE. The Mackenzie County Council .met at Fairlie' dAi Monday, all the memfa'erabeing present. The' Engineer reported that the works at >Pukaki 'Bridge Other smeller ''works were ' reported oh in detail. The Mount Feel Bead Board sent terms for a mutual arrangement regarding the' oversight of two boundary river bridges; and fords. The terms wire approved and", adopted. The Lands mid Survey Department gave .notice of the payment of JE3OO for road construction from Fairlia to Pukabi, and of .£3OO for a like work from Pukaki to Omnrama, and the Engineer was instructed to confer with the Commissioner of Lands as to its expenditure. Mr C. G. Tripp wrote regarding the movement to annex Mount Peel Bead District to Mackenzie County. It was decided to ask him to arrange to eend someone to represent the views of all the jlocal bodies interested. Some discussion Jtookplace regarding the rate of wages paid ,'by the Council. At the previous meeting ! th« rate of wages of the road gangs had been reduced by Is a day to 6s for pick and above 1 men, and 7s for horse drivers. The men complained that this made their wages lower than those paid by neighbouring ■local bodies, and Mb Boss gave notice to rescind the resolution and revise the rate. Inquiries bad been made of other bodies and rates obtained. The Chairman suggested that the old pick and shovel hands should be given 6s 6d, and any nowoneatia a day. It was resolved that the rates should be~*Shovel bands 6s 6d, drivers 7a, foremen 7s 6d, casual hands 6s, foremen in charge of more than one gang Is per day oxtya. Accounts amounting to £iii7 Hi. 4d, apd Pukaki Bridge final payment, .£270, were passed for payment. -
