CANTERBURY RUGBY UNION. A meeting of tha committee of the Canterbury Rugby Union was held at the Clarendon Hotel Met evening; present— Messrs L, A. Cuff (ia tho chair), W. J. Cottcriil, G. H. Mason. H. Frost, F. T. Evans, T. Bunfcia, P. E. Asquith, W. G. Garrard and Dr Jennings. Tha Treasurer reported that only three teams had entered for the Thursday Flag competition. On the motion of Mr Mason, seconded by Mr Cotterill, it was resolved to abandon the competition for this season. The Albion Club wrote stating that three members who bad not paid their last year’s subscriptions had joined other clubs. The Secretary was instructed to obtain particulars, and report oa the matter to next meeting. In reply to the Secretary, the oommiteee decided that ia a match players must wear the colours of their own club. Tha Secretary of the Otago Rugby Union wrote thanking Mr Garrard for his services at the annual meeting of tbe Now Zealand Union. It was’rsported that a prominent member of the Emt Christchurch Club had played for ths Merivalo Club on Saturday last without giving notice to the .East Christchurch Club that ho intended to do so. Tho committee decided that it could not deal with tho matter at present. Lettora were read from the New Zealand Rugby Union, stating that tho Canterbury Union’s proportiou of tha levy made to clear- off the deficiency oa last year’s balance-sheet was £6l4s 2d; that tbe'disqaaiification of tho Treasurer of a country club in tho North Island was ia force throughout the colony so far as football wan concerned; end that tho disqualification in regard to noting ao captain of a representative team imposed upon William M’Kenzie, of Wellington, had now been removed. Tho letters were received, and it waa resolved to forward the amount asked for immediately. Tho grounds and reforeea for ths senior matches-on • Saturday--were arranged as under : Erst Christchurch v. North. Canterbury, at Lancaster Park, referee Mr Labafct j Liawood v. Canterbury College, at Lancaster Park, referee Mr ■ Cotterill; Kaiapoi- v. Christchurch, at Eaiapoi, referee Mr Evans; Merivale v. Sydenham, at Sydenham Park, referee Mr Soper. Tho meeting then closed. A match between the Temukaand Wslhi Clubs was played at Temuka on Saturday, and resulted in a win for Tv’aibi by twenty points (four goals from tries) to nil. Tho Waihi forwards were far too heavy for their opponents, and tha backs had little to do. During the first spell the Temuka captain had the misfortune to have his no.-e broken, hut is now recovering. At a general meeting of the Hardware Athletic Club, held at tbe Clarendon Hotel oa Monday evening, arrangements for tho annual football match with Icwell on May 24 were completed. Cn account of soma of the hardware houses closing their wholesale branches on Saturday it waa found impossible to enter a teaxu for the Thursday competition. [Pee Peers Association. !
