FPeb Press Association.] AUCKLAND. Mat 13. Major Harris, M.H.E. for PrauklyiJ. addressed a largely attended meeting: ftt Pukekoho on Saturday, and was very favourably received. He was accorded a Unanimous vote of thanks and confidence. John Jones, who was concerned in the Newton riot of Saturday night week, waa Sued £2, with the alternative of a month a imprisonment, for resisting Constable Lowther; for obscene ha was sentenced to two months’ imprisonment, and on a third charge of assaulting a woman he received the option of a fine of SOs or one month’s imprisonment. The sentences of imprisonment run concurrently with each other and with the term the accused is at present serving, two months for being drnafc and disorderly. The Premier has telegraphed to.Mr Crowfcher, that those who fixed Saturday as the day on which the weekly half-holiday should bo observed are to blame, nob the Government, for the bardehip entailed!. At a public meeting at. Oaehunga a resolution in favour of closing oh Wednesdays was carried.
