CHRISTCHURCH FIRE BRIGADE.
TO THE EDITOE. Sib,—My attention has been drawn to two peculiarities in connection with the adoption of Clause 2 of the Fire Brigade Committee's report at last Council meeting. First, the reoccurrence of the number throe; second, the lapse in the committee’s memory. Three men well up in Fite Brigade matters in different parts of New Zealand, but who probably never saw the man they recommend work at three fires, send letters in hisj favour. Three men who at one time belonged to this Brigade, but who probably never worked along with the nominee three times when they were in a position to watoh his conduct, give strong recommendations of his fitness. Three men who from their position and qualifications were of all others fit to give an opinion were nob asked—it did not occur to the committee. One is facile princeps in Nqw Zealand—the man of all others qualified to give an opinionhut it did not occur to the committee. The other two from their position as leaders, and their opportunities for observation, must be taken as more competent to give an opinion than either of the other two threes —but it did not occur to the committee. Why did it not occur ?—I am,&o., AN OBSERVER.
