RIVER BOARD.
A meeting of the South Waimakariri River Board wag held yesterday afternoon; present —Messrs W. Boag (chairman), H. W. Peryman, R. M. Taylor, R. W. England, J. C. Atkinson, T. Wilson and C. F. Money. The overseer reported that there had been no flood in the river during the month. He dealt with the fencing contracts and fences which required repairs on various sections belonging to the Board. With regard to the application of the Salwyn County Council to remove tho head works of the water-race higher up the river, he recommended that it; should not be granted, as tho race would run alongside tho property of several freeholders who had objected on a former occasion, and they would hold tho Board responsible for any damage done. It was decided to reply to the Sslwyn County Council that the Board would give the Council every facility for increasing its water-power, but would require the Council to guarantee the freeholders against damage, and relieve tho Board from responsibility. The report was adopted. A large amount of correspondence was dealt with. After passing accounts and transacting some routine business, the meeting closed.
