OBITUARY.
SIR ROBERT PEEL. [Special to Psess Association.] - LONDON, Mat 9.
The death is announced of the Right Hon Sir RoherfcPeel, son of thefamqus Sir Robert Peel, and brother of- the late Speaker of the House of .Oommons. He died suddenly from, hemorrhage of the brain. *, [The Eight Honorable Sir Robert‘Peel;’ Bart,, G.C.8., P.C., was the eldest son of the iato Sir Robert Peel. Ho was bom on : May 4, 1822, and early in life entered the diplomatic service. He was s Lord of the Admiralty from Feb,. 1855, till May, 1857, and Chief Secretary for Ireland from July, 1861, till Deo., 1865. He went to Russia in 1865 in connection with the coronation of Alexander'll. Sir Robert represented Tamworth in the Liberal interest for many years, and took a prominent part in debates on Irish, questions. Later in Ufa ho sat bb a Conservative, representing first Huntingdon and then Blackburn. In 188 S he contested the Inverness Burghs aa |a Home Euler, but was defeated by : a Unionist.] Aa old colonist, Mr Edward Shsrratfc, who has lived iu the Kaiapoi district for about forty years, died on Wednesday evening in his seventy-third year. In the early dsya Mr Sherratt followed‘the occupation of a gardener, bub of late years ha has been unable to do any work. He leaves two eons. Mr Sherratt came from Macclesfield, Cheshire. - ' r
