At the Supremo Court to-day, before Judge Richmond, after a hearing extending over eleven days, the jury returned a verdict in the case Grant v. the Manawatu Road Board, claim £I2OO for alleged damage to property by drainage. Tbs jury returned a verdict for the plaintiff for £SO, on two counts of £45 and £5 respectively. The question of; costs and the entering of the judgment were reserved. Noon, an old man, who pleaded guilty to forgery, was sentenced to four months’ hard labour, the Rev Grace, of Greytown having promised to look after him on his release from prison. Jeremiah Crawley, Jeremiah Kelly, Robert Mountain, George Todd and John Callaghan, mostly firemen on the steamship Kaikoura, were convicted of a serious assault on W, J. Harris, quarter-master. Crawley, who used a bottle, got eighteen months. Mountain twelve months, Kelly nine months, and the others six months each.
