Tho Harvester's ■win in the Champion Stakes yesterday was not bo popular aa it would havo been had tha colt shaped batter in the St Lager and the Australian Cup, and hoots and yells from a number of disappointed punters who had deserted 'him for Patron and Carnage in the threemile event greeted his return to the scale. The Harvester is not further engaged daring tho meeting. In the Champion Stakes yesterday Carnage sprung a tendon, and is not likely to .race again for some time. The weather was again fine, the attendance large and the racing excellent. Tha fields, however, were moderate. The Consolation Handicap was converted into a walk-over, Ben Godfrey ’ being the only starter. Crawford’s machine was again used for starting purposes. During the afternoon a Wellington bookmaker was warned off the course ' for totalisator betting, being caught red-handed by one of the stewards. Lady Zetland shot to the front whan the tapes were released, hut passing the stand Dreamland held a slight lead, with Ben Godfrey close up, and Lady Zetland, Monte Carlo and Eangipuhi following in the order named. At the back of the coarse Lady Zetland had again gone to the front, closely attended by Ben Godfrey with Monte Carlo third. Dreamland fourth, and Eacgiouhi bringing., up the rear. Entering the straight all were hard at it, and an exciting race ended in Lady Zetland winning by a neck, with two lengths and a half between the second and third horses, and Monte Carlo fourth.
