A. letter was received from the Invercargill Chamber of Commerce, asking tbe Association to co-operato in urging on the Government tbe advisability of carrying lime for agricultural purposes free on tho Haw Zealand railways. Sir John Hall thought it was quite right that lime for agricultural purposes should be carried at as low a rate us possible, bub he thought it was going too far to ask the Government to carry it for nothing. Ha pointed out that in Canterbury and Otago there was virtually c monopoly in the production of lime, and it would be advisable that soma conditions should be made that the pre-ant companies should not raise their prices, but, if possible, further reduce thorn. Ho moved—“ That it is deferable that considerable reductions should bo made in the carriage of agricultural lime on tbe railways, conditionally, on satisfactory arrangements being made with tha producing companies,” Mr C. Lewis seconded tho motion. Mr J. Anderson thought some inquiry should be made es to what was at present being charged on the railway. approached the Government several times on tho matter, and on each, occasion a reduction had been made. They could not expect the Government to carry lime at a loss. Mr Grigg did not wish it to be carried at a loss, hut he thought the Government’s attention should be called to increase of traffic which would be caused by the greater productiveness of the land from the more general use of lime. He gave instances of tho increase in bis own crops from the free use of lime. The motion was carried. BAM FAIR. The sub-committee appointed to confer with tho stock salesmen as to the arrangements for tho ram and owe fair, brought up its report, which was adopted. Tho Hon J, T. Peacock and Messrs R. H.
